Rajkummar Rao starrer courtroom drama Prahaar has earned Rs 9.15 crore net at the domestic box office after its opening weekend. Avinash Arun directed the film, which tells the story of lawyer Ujjwal Nikam. In comparison, Balaji Mohan's horror comedy Nayyi Navelli, starring Yami Gautam, is ahead with Rs 11.65 crore net in the same period.
Box Office Numbers
On its first Sunday, Prahaar earned Rs 3.65 crore from 3,730 screens. This marked a 15.9 percent rise from its Saturday collection of Rs 3.15 crore. Meanwhile, Nayyi Navelli earned Rs 4.40 crore from 5,546 screens on Sunday, showing a 10 percent rise from Saturday. Both films saw their screen counts drop by a couple of hundreds each day, but grew due to opening weekend momentum. Worldwide, Prahaar collected Rs 12.86 crore while Nayyi Navelli earned Rs 15.88 crore. Both films also trail the older release Drishyam 3, directed by Abhishek Pathak and starring Ajay Devgn, which earned Rs 14.35 crore over its third weekend.
Industry Context
Director Hansal Mehta compared Prahaar's box office run to Rajkummar Rao's past films like Shahid and Stree. Prahaar has a budget of Rs 60 crore, while Stree had a budget of Rs 25 crore. Both new releases face their real test on Monday when collections typically drop. They have four days left before five new Hindi films release on October 23, led by the Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan spy comedy Udta Teer.
Context
Box office collections in the Indian film industry often fluctuate between the opening weekend and the crucial first Monday test. Weekend momentum helps early numbers, but weekday drops are common as regular working days begin. Producers frequently time releases around festival seasons or clear windows to maximize theatre occupancy before fresh competition arrives.
