Nepal has blocked the public screening of the upcoming Hindi movie Udta Teer, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. The country's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology denied permission for the film's exhibition following a review by the Central Film Censor Board.
Censor Decision
The censor board reviewed the movie on Ashwin 19, 2083, according to the Nepali calendar. The evaluation led the board to conclude that the production breached a specific provision of the national cinema law. The ministry then issued an official letter to National Cinema Group Nepal Pvt. Ltd. in Kathmandu, communicating that the public release is not permitted. Officials have not yet shared the exact reasons behind the block.
Cast and Plot
Directed by Akash A Kaushik in his directorial debut, the movie hits cinemas on October 23, 2026. The story follows a Pakistani spy named Bilal Ahmad, played by Ayushmann, who crosses into India and loses his memory after an accident. He ends up believing he is an Indian spy instead. The star-studded cast also includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar, and Smita Tambe.
Context
Films crossing borders frequently undergo official screenings by local censorship authorities to ensure they meet regional broadcasting and exhibition guidelines. Neighboring countries often review incoming foreign releases to verify compliance with domestic laws before granting public clearance.
