Police raided a farm in Dindawar village, Vijayapura district, on October 18 after receiving a tip, and seized 202.75 kg of cannabis valued at about ₹1.01 crore, arresting farmer Sharanappa Jeer, 56. The special narcotics vigilance cell of Basavana Bagewadi police station discovered more than 500 cannabis plants hidden in the middle of a red gram field that the farmer had cultivated on the periphery. Inspectors followed NDPS Act procedures, confirmed the offence and took Jeer into custody. Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi praised officers Chandrakant Nandareddy, Gurushanth Dashyal and other team members for the swift action. He appealed to citizens to immediately inform police of any knowledge about drug production, sale or use. ## Context The NDPS Act makes cultivation of cannabis a serious crime, and Karnataka has seen a rise in farms that conceal drug plants within legitimate crops, leading to heightened police vigilance.
