Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Pinarayi Vijayan accused the United Democratic Front government of promoting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh agenda through education policies, university appointments, and development choices. Speaking at a party meeting in Kannur, he argued that both the State and Union governments are undermining democracy and secular values.
State and National Politics
Mr. Vijayan criticised the Congress-led State government for actions including the full rendition of Vande Mataram at the swearing-in ceremony and pushing for the PM-SHRI Education scheme. He also claimed the Governor is advancing RSS interests in state-run universities through vice-chancellor appointments and committee nominations. Nationally, he alleged the BJP government is implementing the RSS agenda, citing the Citizenship Amendment Act and opposition to a National Register of Citizens.
Election Commission and Development
He further criticised Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over voting rights and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which he said has impacted lakhs of voters in Kerala and crores nationally. Defending KIIFB-funded projects, he stated that roughly rupees one lakh crore has been allocated across Kerala, with about rupees 40,000 crore implemented over ten years, and challenged criticism regarding land acquisition costs and development in Kannur.
Context
Political debates in India frequently involve competing claims between ruling and opposition parties over governance, secularism, and institutional independence. KIIFB is a key financial vehicle used in Kerala for funding large-scale public infrastructure projects across the State.
