MEA Statement

The Ministry of External Affairs rejected references to India in resolutions adopted at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Baghdad, calling them malicious, biased and false, and accusing Pakistan of orchestrating them. The meeting took place on October 17-18, 2026. In its statement on Monday, the MEA said it was disappointed that the OIC allowed itself to be misused by Pakistan for a bigoted agenda, reiterating that the group has no locus standi to comment on internal Indian matters.

Development and PoJK

The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India, and politically motivated propaganda cannot change that reality. Since the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir has experienced economic growth, better infrastructure, tourism, and direct connectivity benefits for its people. In contrast, the MEA stated that Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir faces violence, repression, and brutality by Pakistan against civilian protesters, which has killed scores of people including women and children. The ministry noted that media blackouts cannot hide these violations.

Outstanding Issues

The only remaining issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir are Pakistan vacating areas under its illegal and forcible occupation and stopping its support for cross-border terrorism. Addressing OIC insinuations of Islamophobia, the ministry called them a desperate attempt by Pakistan to divert attention from its own minority persecution, sectarian violence, governance failures, and political instability.

Context

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is an international body of Muslim-majority nations that frequently passes resolutions on regional issues. India maintains a consistent diplomatic stance that the organization has no authority or legal standing to comment on India's internal affairs.

What Happened

The Ministry of External Affairs strongly responded to resolutions passed at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meeting in Baghdad, rejecting comments on Jammu and Kashmir and accusing Pakistan of manipulating the forum.

Why It Matters

This diplomatic dispute reflects long-standing geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan on international platforms. India consistently rejects external interference in its internal governance, while Pakistan regularly raises the Kashmir issue at global bodies like the OIC to rally diplomatic support.

What Happens Next

India is expected to continue its policy of rejecting OIC statements on its internal territories while engaging bilaterally with individual member nations. The diplomatic friction between New Delhi and Islamabad over regional sovereignty and cross-border terrorism remains unchanged.
