Elon Musk plans to give every child in the United States one share of SpaceX next year. Musk announced this on X on Monday, stating he would give one of his SpaceX shares to every kid in America.
Details and Numbers
Census Bureau data shows there were 72 million children under the age of 18 in the US as of July 1, 2025. Based on Friday's closing share price of $146.03, giving one share to each child would equal about $10.5 billion worth of shares. Musk currently owns roughly 4.8 billion SpaceX shares according to an August SEC filing, which rises to 6.4 billion when counting unvested awards and stock options. This gives him a 48.4 percent beneficial stake in the company. After SpaceX went public on June 12, Musk holds 82 percent of the voting power.
Context
Elon Musk made the proposal after replying to a post by Anthropic about allocating 5 percent of its shares to a public fund. However, Musk has not yet explained how children will be identified or how the shares will be legally transferred to minors.
