UEFA has given FIFA until 2 November to hand over key governance and decision‑making papers, warning that any refusal must be individually justified. The demand was made in a letter seen by BBC Sport, signed by UEFA general secretary Theodore Theodoridis, who said the world football body has left a number of basic questions unanswered. The letter also attached an eight‑page note outlining concerns that include the FIFA Forward Enterprise private‑investment scheme, the FIFA Peace Prize programme and the pending suspension ban of player Folarin Balogun. At the FIFA Council meeting on Thursday, president Gianni Infantino – who has led the organisation since 2016 and is seeking a third term – offered an apology for his plan to sell World Cup rights but did not provide the requested documents. Theodoridis wrote that any lack of disclosure should be explained with clear grounds. The Football Association chair has remarked that “nothing has changed” under Infantino’s leadership. Failure to meet the deadline could trigger further actions by UEFA, including possible sanctions or legal steps.
Context
The deadline comes as FIFA faces scrutiny over its financial projects and disciplinary actions, and UEFA’s push reflects a broader call for transparency in international football governance.
