The much-awaited Jio Platforms initial public offering opens for subscription tomorrow, Wednesday, October 21. The Mukesh Ambani-led company aims to raise thirty thousand two hundred thirteen crore rupees through this public offering.
Timeline and Details
The public issue will stay open for bidding until Friday, October 23. The share allotment is likely to be finalised soon, while the shares are expected to list on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange on Wednesday, October 28. The IPO comprises an entirely fresh issue of twenty-seven crore shares. The price band is fixed at one thousand sixty-five rupees to one thousand one hundred nineteen rupees per share, with each share having a face value of ten rupees. Retail investors can bid for a minimum of one lot of twelve shares, translating into a minimum investment of thirteen thousand four hundred twenty-eight rupees at the upper end of the price band. This public issue is set to overtake Hyundai Motor India's IPO launched in October 2024 to become India's largest-ever IPO by issue size.
Market Response
Market observers note that the IPO is attracting a strong grey market premium ahead of its launch. Investorgain data shows the grey market premium stands at two hundred forty-five rupees, indicating robust interest. An analysis of grey market trends over the past seventeen sessions shows the premium has ranged between one hundred forty-eight rupees and two hundred fifty rupees, pointing to a positive sentiment. This trend suggests an estimated listing price of one thousand three hundred sixty-four rupees, which is twenty-one point eight nine percent higher than the IPO price. Brokerage firms Motilal Oswal and Shriram Finance have both recommended investors to subscribe for the issue, citing market leadership, earnings growth, and opportunities in broadband and artificial intelligence, while also noting risks such as regulation and competition.
Context
Initial public offerings allow private companies to raise capital from the public by selling shares, which are subsequently traded on stock exchanges like the BSE and NSE. Grey market premiums are unofficial indicators that reflect market demand and investor sentiment before shares officially debut on the stock market.
