Rajkummar Rao and Pratibha Ranta to star in Dharma Productions' new fantasy horror film Vishkanya

Rajkummar Rao and Pratibha Ranta will lead the cast of a new fantasy horror movie titled Vishkanya, produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The upcoming feature combines a vast mythical setting with dark supernatural themes, staying away from standard scary movie clichés. Sonal Joshi will direct the project, having previously made her debut with the 2023 Shilpa Shetty comedy Sukhee, and working earlier as an assistant director on films like Dhoom 3 and Tamasha. Production on the movie is set to kick off before the end of the year. Pratibha Ranta, who gained recognition for her role in Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies, will play the central character of the Vishkanya. This project marks her second collaboration with Dharma Productions following the Netflix psychological thriller Accused alongside Konkona Sen Sharma. For Rajkummar Rao, this is also his second movie with the banner after starring in the 2024 film Mr. & Mrs. Mahi opposite Janhvi Kapoor. Alongside this announcement, Dharma Productions has a large lineup of upcoming theatrical releases planned for the 2027-28 period. These include the fantasy comedy Naagzilla featuring Kartik Aaryan, a period folk thriller named Odiyan: The Age of Illusion, a Raj Mehta film titled Lag Ja Gale starring Tiger Shroff, Lakshya, and Janhvi Kapoor, and an untitled psychological romance directed by Prosit Roy with Lakshya and Vedika Pinto. The studio is also developing a big-budget spy movie based on the life of R.N. Kao, who founded India's R&AW intelligence agency, as well as an epic romance tracking the love story of Radha and Krishna.
