Lexus has confirmed that the 2027 NX crossover will completely drop its gas-only trim options, selling exclusively as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid for the first time in its history. The automaker unveiled the updated model on October 20, 2026, narrowing the lineup to four distinct trims while boosting electric power across both available drivetrains.
Design Updates
Buyers now choose between the NX 350h hybrid and the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid across Premium, Premium+, F Sport, and Luxury grades. Every version receives sharper exterior styling, a stiffer chassis, and a cabin centered around a larger standard touchscreen. The exterior features a new dual-line headlamp signature that combines turn signals and daytime running lights, alongside the brand's first Double L taillight treatment flanking an illuminated logo badge. Lexus offers nine exterior colors, introducing Shaded Ivy, Incognito for F Sport models, and replacing Atomic Silver with Iridium. Most chrome trim is gone, replaced instead by black mirror caps and window moldings.
Interior And Powertrain
Inside, the cabin features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster paired with a 14.0-inch touchscreen running Lexus Interface software, alongside five interior color choices including Abalos and Radiant Red. Under the skin, both powertrains route power through a new e-Axle that combines the transaxle, motor, and power control unit into a lighter assembly to lower the center of gravity. Lexus also added silicon carbide semiconductors to the inverter to reduce electrical losses. The NX 350h hybrid's combined output climbs to 244 horsepower—a four-horsepower gain—with hybrid control software utilizing more electric assist during acceleration. Meanwhile, the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid sees total system output jump to 324 horsepower, up from 304 horsepower, thanks to a front motor making 203 horsepower and a redesigned lithium-ion battery providing an eight percent increase in both output and capacity.
Context
Automobile manufacturers frequently update vehicle lineups and powertrain options to meet changing emissions standards and consumer preferences for electrified vehicles. Transitioning popular compact crossover models exclusively to hybrid and plug-in hybrid options reflects a wider industry shift toward vehicle electrification without relying entirely on fully electric architectures.
