Banks will stay open today in most parts of the country for customers who have pending financial work to finish. According to ABP News, public and private sector bank branches remain closed today in Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Sikkim, Tripura, and West Bengal due to Vijayadashami and Durga Puja. Major lenders like State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank are shut in those specific states. Meanwhile, banks are operating normally today in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, the National Capital Region, Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh because their local holiday schedules fell on earlier dates.

Digital Services

Customers who cannot visit a physical branch can still use internet banking, mobile banking, and UPI for essential money transfers and payments. ATMs remain fully functional for cash withdrawals across all regions. However, branch-dependent tasks like accessing lockers, submitting loan documents, or changing account categories require waiting for banks to reopen. Normal branch operations will resume in the six affected states tomorrow, Thursday, October 22.

Context

Bank holiday schedules in India vary by state because public holidays are declared according to regional festivals and local government calendars. While physical branches close for major state-level celebrations, digital banking channels operate continuously around the clock. This ensures that routine financial transactions can continue without disruption even on local holiday dates.
