How to update your residential address on Aadhaar online or offline

Aadhaar holders can update their residential address either online through official portals or offline by visiting an authorised centre. The process requires submitting the new address along with valid supporting evidence. UIDAI reviews all requests, so submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Applicants should check the official UIDAI website for the exact process and applicable fees before beginning.
Online Process
The online address update is available through the myAadhaar portal. Applicants sign in using their Aadhaar details and complete an OTP verification. An OTP, or one-time password, is a temporary code used to confirm identity during an online transaction. If you cannot receive an OTP on your registered mobile number, you may need to visit an authorised Aadhaar centre instead. The portal also provides procedures for eligible residents who need to use evidence of a qualifying family member's address.
Document Requirements
For an update using your own documents, you generally need an accepted Proof of Address, which means a document that supports the address you want recorded. UIDAI maintains a list of accepted documents, including eligible government-issued records, utility bills, and certain financial or residential papers. Before submitting, you must check that the document is on the accepted list, that the name and address match the application, that the document is valid and clearly readable, and that any uploaded scan is complete. UIDAI lists a ₹ 75 fee for demographic updates, including address changes. After submission, the portal provides a reference number for tracking the request.
Offline Process
If you cannot complete the process online, you can visit an authorised Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra. You can find a centre through the official UIDAI website. You must carry your Aadhaar details and the original supporting documents required for the update. Tell the operator you want to update your address, complete the required form, and check the entered information before confirming. The centre provides an acknowledgement or update reference so you can check the status later.
Context
Aadhaar is a unique identification system used across India for various identity and verification purposes. Keeping personal details such as residential addresses up to date ensures smooth access to services and official documentation. Official services and fee structures are managed directly through the Unique Identification Authority of India.
