Rainy Season Steps

The Tamil Nadu government is closely watching the rainfall situation and weather forecasts to stop any damage. Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.A. Sengottaiyan stated that officials are working directly with district heads. No lives have been lost in the state because of rain so far.

Chennai Measures

Chennai has been split into 15 zones with an IAS officer put in charge of each zone. A team of seven ministers has also been formed to check on the progress of work. Mr. Sengottaiyan mentioned that 40 percent of pending storm-water drain work has been rushed and finished over the past four months, replying to claims made by the DMK.

Welfare Work

To fix a shortage of surveyors, 1,500 new surveyors have been hired on a temporary basis and will start work after finishing two months of training. The state aims to give house site pattas to more than 20 lakh people by next December. Officials are also using the help of banks to fix problems with reading biometric data for old age pension users. During a visit to Viralimalai in Pudukottai district, Mr. Sengottaiyan and Labour Welfare Minister J. Mohamed Farvas handed out welfare aid worth ₹4.38 crore to 1,384 people.

Context
