Python and hen rescued from dance troupe during Hyderabad festival

The Rescue

Animal welfare activists and police in Hyderabad rescued an Indian rock python and a hen from a dance group during a Ganesh immersion procession on Sunday. The operation involved members from the Greater Hyderabad Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Madhuranagar Police. Officials apprehended the alleged snake handler in Jawaharnagar after tracking the troupe for five days.

Investigation and Seizure

GHSPCA officials stated they had been following the dance troupe, which originally came from Visakhapatnam, after receiving tips that a live snake was part of their acts. The team previously tried to stop the group during a procession in Kondapur on September 19, but the handler escaped before police could catch him. When authorities located the group again the next day in Jawaharnagar, they found the python being openly displayed during a road performance alongside a mistreated hen.

Medical Treatment

The rescued python falls under the protection of the Wild Life Protection Act of 1972 and is currently under veterinary care. Medical examinations revealed that the reptile has an infection in its mouth and teeth. GHSPCA stated that the snake will remain under treatment and will be released back into its natural habitat after recovery, pending approval from wildlife authorities.
