A public dispute has broken out between two United Democratic Front MPs in Kerala over who is responsible for bringing a Vistadome tourist coach to the Madurai-Guruvayur Express.

The Dispute Begins

The clash started when MPs N.K. Premachandran and Kodikunnil Suresh both took to social media to claim credit for securing the specialised railway coach. The tension grew worse when Abdullah Azad, a staff member working with Kodikunnil Suresh, posted a comment online targeting N.K. Premachandran. Azad stated that simply sending formal letters to officials is not enough without proper follow-up work.

Competing Claims

N.K. Premachandran told the press that his hard work over many years made the project happen. He said he has been pushing for the coach ever since he became a Lok Sabha member, and that he convinced central railway authorities by pointing out the tourism value of the Kollam area. In reply, Kodikunnil Suresh stated that he laid the foundation for the train service in the past. He pointed to his time as a former Union Minister when he helped start the Punalur-Guruvayur train in 2013, arguing that the new coach is just a logical next step for that service. He also dismissed the criticism and said he only works for public needs.

Context

Disputes over public credit are common among politicians when new infrastructure projects or transport upgrades finally launch in their constituencies. These political disagreements often surface on social media platforms where leaders rush to share achievements directly with voters.
