Top international filmmakers are traveling to Yogyakarta for the first-ever Producers Exchange at Indonesia's JAFF Market. The market holds its third edition from November 28 to 30 and runs alongside the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival, which was founded in 2006 and runs through December 5.
Producers and Projects
The debut exchange features 14 selected picks from around the world. The lineup includes Wong Kew Soon, producer of the Fan Bingbing vehicle "Mother Bhumi," and Rajib Mohajan, who worked on the Cannes title "Rehana Maryam Noor." Singapore is represented by Sam Chua Weishi and Wendy Lie, while Taiwan's Shao-Yi Chen and South Korea's Kimbo Kim also join the roster. Local representation comes from Indonesian producers Nana Riskhi and Nick Musa. Additional participants include Thailand's Phimphloi Nan Saensuk, Filipina producer Danzen Santos Katanyag, Mongolian executive Otgontuya Zorig, and Canadian filmmaker Jason Karman.
Australian Partnership
Australia is represented by Lisa Scott and Rae Choi through a partnership with the Adelaide Film Festival. Scott's credits include the drama series "The Tourist," while Choi founded Limina Pictures. Adelaide Film Festival CEO and creative director Mat Kesting stated that the tie-up helps Australian producers connect with Indonesian filmmakers early in project development.
Market Support and Goals
Market director Linda Gozali stated that the program aims to position Indonesia as a creative production partner for international talent. Participants receive tailored calendars for pre-booked meetings with project selections, rights holders, and exhibitors, covering topics like adaptation, financing, co-production, and release. Each selected producer also receives four nights of lodging in Yogyakarta, market accreditation, and entry to screenings and networking events.
Context
Co-production markets like this help filmmakers pool financial resources and tap into regional funding grants across different countries. Such events bridge the gap between creative talent and industry buyers, making international partnerships easier to establish in the film industry.
