Telangana will fill all open roles in its police force by 2028 and add 5,000 new personnel to the department. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy shared this update on Wednesday during the Police Commemoration Day event at Goshamahal Police Stadium in Hyderabad. He also noted that the state has already appointed 112 new Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Higher Payouts
The state has raised financial support for the families of police personnel who die while on duty. The payout for constables and head constables moves up to one crore rupees from past levels of 40 and 45 lakh rupees. Sub-inspectors and inspectors will now see 1.25 crore rupees, while deputy superintendents and additional superintendents get 1.50 crore rupees. Families of SPs and IPS officers will now receive two crore rupees instead of one crore rupees. At the same time, the state doubled the payout for home guards who die on duty, raising it from five lakh to ten lakh rupees.
Modern Policing
Director General of Police C.V. Anand spoke at the event about new threats like cyber crimes, drug trade, and food fraud that need updated skills. The Chief Minister also pointed to the role of transgender individuals working as traffic assistants to build social dignity. During the ceremony, leaders honored fallen officers from across the country, including Telangana personnel D. Devi Singh, Empalli Pramod Kumar, Seelam Kamalakar, and Gajula Soumya.
Context
Police Commemoration Day is observed across India every October to honor police personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty. State governments routinely review welfare measures and compensation packages for security personnel to support grieving families and encourage recruitment.
