The new horror movie Clayface hits screens in India with paid previews tonight, October 22, and a full release on Friday, October 23, following edits ordered by the Central Board of Film Certification. The Central Board of Film Certification gave the DC Universe film an 'A' certificate, but required changes before clearing it on October 19.

Movie Edits And Runtime

The censor board removed nude scenes in two parts of the movie. One cut removed a five-second nude shot, while the second cut removed 19 seconds of footage. One of these scenes includes actor Joana Ribeiro, who plays the character Mia Torrez. Creators covered up her nudity by zooming in on a different person. The board also told makers to change scenes showing a face being smashed in two spots, with one shot lasting one second and the other lasting six seconds. Makers took out an expletive from the subtitles on their own, and added anti-alcohol and anti-drug warning messages in the bottom corner of the screen. The final run time listed on the censor certificate is 108.31 minutes, which equals one hour, 48 minutes, and 31 seconds.

Context

Censor board rules in India often require edits or warning messages for movies that receive adult ratings. Similar cuts to another Hollywood film earlier this year sparked public debate over edits made to adult-rated cinema.
