Record Innings
Captain Harry Brook became the first England batter to score a double century in a one-day international with a score of 202 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. His astonishing hitting took him past the previous England best of 182 made by Ben Stokes against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023. Brook reached 200 from 114 balls, breaking the record for the fastest double century in an ODI by beating the 117 deliveries taken by India player Shubman Gill against West Indies last month. Brook was out to the final ball of the innings after recording the 14th double hundred in a men's one-day international and the 12th highest individual score.
Team Total
Brook's assault on the Sri Lanka bowling attack lifted England to a total of 429-4 from 50 overs, which is the highest in a one-day international in Pakistan. Other contributions to the innings included Joe Root with 69 runs and Will Jacks with 66 not out.
Context
Scoring a double century in a 50-over match is one of the rarest and most difficult feats in international cricket. Rawalpindi frequently hosts high-scoring matches due to batting-friendly pitches.
