The Centre has extended the tenure of Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad by another six months until May 31, 2027.
The Approval
The Department of Personnel and Training under the Union Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions approved this extension after the State government sent a proposal on September 29. Union government Under Secretary Rajesh Kumar Yadav informed the Principal Secretary of the State General Administration Department about the approval.
Officer Background
Mr. Sai Prasad is a 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service officer who took charge as Chief Secretary on February 28, 2026, following K. Vijayanand. He previously worked as the Special Chief Secretary for the Water Resources Department and as Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. His service had already received a previous six-month extension from June 1 to November 30, 2026, and he was originally set to retire on November 30.
Context
State governments often seek extensions for senior bureaucrats to maintain steady administration and avoid frequent leadership changes in key administrative posts. Such extensions require formal approval from the Union government since all-India service officers are jointly managed by the Centre and the respective State.
