A 37-year-old sales worker died in Kanpur after attackers trapped his hands in a car window, pinned him to the roof, drove with him for one and a half kilometres and ran him over.
What Happened
The victim, Biru Singh Badauria, worked as a salesperson for a food products company and was returning home from a Dussehra fair in the Hanumant Vihar area on Tuesday night. According to a complaint by his father, Ram Shankar Singh, the attackers stopped and beat Badauria before hitting him with their car, catching his hands in the rear window panes and pinning him to the top of the vehicle. They drove at high speed for about 1.5 kilometres before throwing him onto the road and driving over him. Badauria passed away on Wednesday during treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital after first being taken to a private hospital. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal stated that two of the three named suspects, Rajveer and Pintu, are in custody, while police search for the third suspect, Mewa Yadav. The family stated the attack stemmed from an old dispute between Badauria and two of the accused, Rajveer and Mewa Yadav. Badauria's brother initially reported the event as a road crash, but his father later filed a murder complaint against Rajveer, Mewa Yadav and Pintu. Police have seized the car and are reviewing CCTV footage.
Context
Violent street crimes and fatal road attacks often stem from personal disputes and long-standing rivalries in urban areas across India. Local police departments rely heavily on closed-circuit television recordings and witness statements to track down suspects in sudden violent assaults. Investigators look into initial witness or family statements alongside revised formal complaints to uncover the exact sequence of events in criminal investigations.
