Madhya Pradesh plans to build sports complexes in 140 Assembly constituencies across the state. The state Cabinet approved a budget of Rs 962.50-crore for this infrastructure push.
Project Details
The new facilities will be named Chief Minister Sports Complexes. Each complex will feature a permanent helipad in the middle of the main ground to support helicopter movement under the PM Shri scheme. MSME minister Chetanya Kashyap stated that these helipads will also enable the landing of air ambulances when needed. The budget for 2026-27 allocated Rs 815 crore for sports and youth welfare to extend facilities beyond established urban centres.
Current Infrastructure
The Sports and Youth Welfare Department currently operates 11 sports academies covering 18 disciplines, along with 84 training centres, over 90 coaches, and more than 700 athletes. Its infrastructure includes specialised facilities for shooting, hockey, archery, equestrian sports, cricket, water sports, fencing, and athletics. The department has already built 126 indoor and outdoor facilities at 86 development-block headquarters, with 24 stadiums and four hockey turfs currently under construction. This statewide strategy builds upon a framework established in 2005 to identify and train talent at the grassroots level.
