Strike Plans

All Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will stay open on Sunday, September 27, 2026, to help customers before a planned nationwide bank strike. The United Forum of Bank Unions plans to hold a three-day strike from September 28 to 30, 2026. The main demand from the union, which says it represents 90 percent of the banking workforce, is a five-day banking week along with other demands. This three-day walkout happens right at the time of the half-yearly closing of the banking sector.

Official Steps

The Reserve Bank of India has given approval for all bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches, and currency chests to work fully on September 27. The Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance stated that public convenience is the top priority. Officials and bank managements have asked the unions to drop the strike while taking steps to keep essential services running. Banks have also told customers to finish important money work early to avoid trouble.
