UPDATE - follow-up to Banks to remain open on Sunday for customers' convenience in view of proposed nationwide strike: Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will stay open on Sunday, September 27, 2026, to keep services running before a planned three-day nationwide strike. The United Forum of Bank Unions plans to strike from September 28 to 30, 2026, to push for a five-day workweek and other demands. The union states it represents ninety percent of bank workers. The planned strike falls during the half-yearly closing period for banks. The Reserve Bank of India has given approval for bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches, and currency chests to work normally on September 27. The Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance stated that public convenience is the main priority. The government and bank managements have asked the unions to postpone the strike while setting up steps to keep essential services going. Banks have advised customers to finish important banking work early to avoid trouble.
