Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made an unexpected visit to the main office of the state electricity distribution agency in Chennai on Wednesday to check on how power is generated, supplied, and managed. Energy Resources Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar joined him during the review.

Key Issues Discussed

Board officials briefed the Chief Minister on multiple challenges affecting the state. They talked about how long summer conditions pushed up electricity usage, creating a gap between required power and available supply. They also pointed out difficulties in buying extra power from the power exchange, problems with coal deliveries, expensive gas-based electricity production, and sudden equipment failures at central power plants.

Ongoing Actions and Controls

To handle the rising demand, staff outlined steps being taken to improve the power network by setting up new transformers and power lines. They also showed how overloaded networks are being fixed, old equipment is getting replaced, and field teams are being strengthened to solve electricity supply faults quickly. The Chief Minister visited the State Load Despatch Centre to see how grid loads are managed in real time, and also checked the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Control Centre to monitor power flow in Chennai.

Future Goals

Afterwards, Mr. Vijay visited 'Minnagam', the round-the-clock public grievance office that handles consumer complaints. He urged officials to use modern technology for live tracking of power conditions and called for the state to become self-sufficient in energy. He instructed staff to finish ongoing power generation and distribution projects on time and to boost captive power production so that people across the state receive uninterrupted electricity.
