What Happened
West Bengal's leader has strongly attacked the Election Commission and demanded the arrest of a top official following a media report. A recent report by the Indian Express claims that two commissioners had objections regarding SIR decisions, but their views were ignored for a single-sided decision.
The Accusations And Demands
The leader stated that the election official is responsible for past poll outcomes and called for fresh elections using old voter lists in states where wins happened through disputed methods. She also alleged that the official has taken away democratic rights and is only working to satisfy a specific party's ego rather than answering to the country, the constitution, or democracy.
Official Response
Meanwhile, the central Election Commission rejected the media report. The commission explained that having different views among members in a multi-member constitutional body is a normal part of internal balance. The commission also stated that all their actions follow proper laws and rules, coming forward as opposition parties raise serious questions about the fairness of the electoral process.
