Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu finally claimed a silver medal at the Asian Games in Nagoya, ending a 12-year wait that included past struggles with injuries at the continental tournament. Chanu successfully completed all three of her snatch lifts at 83kg, 85kg, and 87kg to secure her place on the podium. She stated that winning a medal at this event feels equal to an Olympic medal due to the tough competition from nations like China and North Korea.

Weight Struggles and Future Plans

Getting to the competition in the 49kg category required intense effort while managing her body weight and recovering from recent injuries. She often trained around 50.5kg and had to carefully control her diet to stay within the limit. With the 49kg category phasing out for the upcoming Los Angeles Games, Chanu plans to move up to the 53kg division. She has already consulted a nutritionist to build muscle and increase weight without losing her core strength.
