Students across Assam's Kamrup Metropolitan district have recorded 1,517 different species of plants and animals during a month-long biodiversity survey. The project, called Guwahati Bioblitz 2025, involved 48 students from seven schools who logged 5,932 observations. The results were announced on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. A Guwahati-based conservation group named Help Earth conducted the 30-day survey in partnership with the Assam Climate Change Management Society. Help Earth general secretary Jayaditya Purkayastha stated the project was meant to help students discover and document biological diversity inside an urban landscape. The final count included 993 plant species, 221 insect species, 117 bird species, 25 mammal species, and 10 reptile species. Participants used the iNaturalist app for species identification along with digital photography and field exploration. Maharishi Vidya Mandir III principal Amlan Kumar Dey, whose school hosted the final event in the Barsajai area, noted that student participation helps promote ecological literacy and the exploration of urban microhabitats.
