Developing countries are unfairly blamed for carbon emissions even though India's per-capita emissions remain less than half of the global average, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in New Delhi. Inaugurating the International Conference on 'The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics' last week, Mr Modi launched the National Green Tribunal mobile application. He pointed out that developed nations emit six times more. India stands as the sole G20 member to meet all Paris COP-21 commitments ahead of schedule.

Official Updates

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav stated that non-fossil sources now account for 54.18 percent of installed electricity capacity, beating the 2030 target nine years early. India ranks third worldwide in renewable energy capacity and second in solar growth. Forest and tree cover has touched 8.27 lakh square kilometres, with the country retaining third place globally for annual net forest-area gain as per the UN FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025. Wildlife efforts include the Cheetah reintroduction and the Great Indian Bustard breeding programme. Chief Justice Surya Kant also spoke, noting the Supreme Court treats a pollution-free environment as a fundamental right.

Conference Scope

Organised by the National Green Tribunal, the event drew experts, jurists, and stakeholders from 17 countries. Discussions focused on five main goals: knowledge exchange, innovation and technology, policy development, collaborative action, and public engagement. Looking ahead, India aims to push for climate action centred on equity at the upcoming UNFCCC COP31 in Antalya.
