An Indian sailor from Uttar Pradesh died on Wednesday after an unknown projectile struck the bulk carrier ship MV Cape Dao in the Gulf of Oman. The victim was identified as Suraj Yadav, a wiper hailing from Deoria, who was working on the vessel while it transited toward India. According to the Forward Seamen's Union of India, the ship was hit by two torpedoes targeting the port side C-deck accommodation and the port side hull near the engine room. Maritime sources confirmed the vessel sails under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda and was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. The Indian Embassy in Muscat stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with Omani authorities to ensure the safety of the remaining crew members. The embassy confirmed that the ship carried 19 Indian nationals according to its initial statement, while the seamen's union reported a total of 28 crew members on board, with 20 of them being Indian. Officials are currently in touch with the family of the deceased sailor and working with the Recruitment and Placement Service License holder. The seamen's union has condemned the attack, stating it puts civilian workers at serious risk in the region and demanding accountability and safe passage for all remaining Indian seafarers.
