The Nifty 50 dropped over half a percent on October 22, remaining under pressure for the third session in a row. Crude oil prices climbed to a fresh five-month high, showing that sellers stayed in control. The index traded below all key moving averages while the technical structure remained weak, leading experts to suggest a sell on rallies strategy. Support and resistance levels point to a crucial floor at 22,500 for the Nifty 50, where a decisive drop could cause heavier selling. Rebound attempts face resistance between 22,800 and 22,900, with the 23,000 level acting as a key psychological hurdle. On the charts, the Nifty 50 formed a Doji candlestick pattern with high trading volumes, pointing to indecision between buyers and sellers. Meanwhile, the Bank Nifty closed 0.09 percent lower after recovering from its day low, forming a bullish candle with long shadows that signals high volatility. Monthly options data shows the 23,000 strike holds the maximum Call open interest with 1.55 crore contracts for the Nifty. On the Put side, the 22,500 strike holds the maximum Put open interest with 92.55 lakh contracts. For the Bank Nifty, the 56,000 strike holds the maximum Call open interest at 15.64 lakh contracts, while the 55,000 strike holds the maximum Put open interest at 11.11 lakh contracts. The Nifty Put-Call ratio rose to 0.88 compared to 0.78 in the previous session. Market activity showed long build-up in 32 stocks, long unwinding in 70 stocks, short build-up in 74 stocks, and short-covering in 41 stocks. Ambuja Cements, Kaynes Technology India, and SAIL remained retained in the derivatives ban list.
