IMA's Objections

The Indian Medical Association has written directly to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to protest the promotional material for Sunny Deol's upcoming movie Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak. The association argues that teasers and trailers paint corruption as a widespread habit across the entire medical community instead of pointing out isolated cases of wrongdoing. While admitting that actual crimes by medical staff need proper investigation and punishment, the group stresses that bad actions by a few must not ruin the reputation of honest doctors.

Concerns Over Violence

The medical body is especially worried about scenes showing physical attacks on doctors, nurses, and hospital workers. These trailers make violence look heroic and justified, according to the association, which could normalise attacks against people whose job is to save lives. Healthcare workers already deal with major safety risks in hospitals, and glowing depictions of assaults on them could invite more hostility. Meanwhile, the Central Board of Film Certification has clarified that the filmmakers have not yet submitted the movie for official certification.

Film Details and Demands

The IMA wants three main actions from authorities: an independent review of the movie's content, corrective changes from the makers to stop the unfair generalization of medical misconduct, and a possible ban or strict action if laws are broken. The movie is an official Hindi remake of the 2018 Malayalam thriller Joseph, directed by M. Padmakumar in his Hindi debut. Sunny Deol stars as an ex-cop looking into medical corruption after a personal tragedy, alongside a supporting cast of Ravi Kishan, Pragya Jaiswal, Manish Wadhwa, and Jisshu Sengupta. Produced by Kamal Mukut, the film is set to hit theatres on November 20, 2026.

Context

Movie controversies involving professional bodies are common in India when trailers touch upon sensitive fields like healthcare or law enforcement. The Indian Medical Association frequently steps in to advocate for doctor safety amid rising concerns over hospital violence across the country. Remakes of regional hit thrillers form a major part of mainstream Bollywood production strategies.
