IndusInd Bank Limited earned a net profit of ₹1,242 crore for the quarter that ended in September, recovering from a net loss in the same period last year when high microfinance provisioning and write-offs hurt finances.

Growth Factors

Net interest income rose to ₹4,569 crore compared to ₹4,409 crore a year ago, supporting the bank's bottom line. Asset quality improved as the gross non-performing assets ratio dropped to 2.73% from 3.60% last year, while net NPA fell to 0.83%. Net revenue climbed to ₹6,817 crore, and operating expenses dropped to ₹3,943 crore from ₹4,013 crore.

Leadership and Outlook

Rajiv Anand, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IndusInd Bank, said the second-quarter results show improving profitability and encouraging asset quality trends. Meanwhile, the bank appointed Priyanka Sinha as an Additional Director for a four-year term ending October 2022, 2030. Bank shares closed at ₹835.00 on Friday, down 1.76% on the BSE.

Context

Banks regularly report quarterly earnings to share their financial health, deposit growth, and asset quality with investors and stock exchanges. Better loan recovery and lower bad loans typically help financial institutions improve their profitability over time.
