Vedanta Power, a company led by billionaire Anil Agarwal, will soon enter the National Stock Exchange indices including Nifty 500 and Nifty Smallcap 250. This change will take effect after trading hours on September 29, with the updates applying from September 30. The entry into these indices will also make Vedanta Power part of the Nifty Midsmallcap 400 and Nifty Smallcap 500 indices. Along with Vedanta Power, other group companies like Vedanta Iron and Steel, Vedanta Oil and Gas, and Vedanta Aluminium Metal will join the index. Other firms such as Avanti Feeds, Azad Engineering, Bagmane Prime Office REIT, and Bharat Coking Coal are also entering the Nifty 500. Analysts note that joining an index does not automatically bring in more funds or change valuation ratings. Meanwhile, Vedanta Power aims to expand its current operational capacity of nearly 5 GW. The company expects to add around 600 MW by the end of FY27, target 12 GW by FY33, and ultimately reach up to 20 GW. For sustainability, its Talwandi Sabo plant uses biomass co-firing for over 5 percent of its total fuel consumption, supporting the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 or earlier.
