Florida-based therapist Jeffrey Meltzer shared four ways on Instagram to deal with constant crankiness and irritation. The first step is to state your cranky thought out loud so you can step back and observe your brain instead of arguing with people. The second tip is to stop doom scrolling and get enough sleep, as a lack of rest is a major reason for bad moods in both adults and children. Third, splashing cold water on your face helps you cool down and manage your mood more easily, though having a friend throw ice cubes at you does not count and will likely make things worse. Finally, skipping meals and failing to eat regular food is the next most common cause of irritability after poor sleep, so making sure you have lunch instead of trying to survive on donuts can help you feel better. Jeffrey is a licensed mental health counselor with a Master's degree in mental health counseling from the University of South Florida who has provided therapy for over seven years.
