The Arrests
Two Uttar Pradesh police personnel and two Central Reserve Police Force personnel have been arrested for the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old woman from Haryana at a farmhouse in Amroha district.
The Sequence of Events
The victim, a resident of Fatehabad in Haryana, stated she was contacted on September 20 by a female acquaintance who told her to meet CRPF Inspector Mohit to visit religious places in Amroha. She met Mohit in Sonipat on September 21, and they traveled to Meerut where CRPF Head Constable Lalaram Yadav joined them. On September 22, the men drove to Hasanpur and picked up local Sub-Inspector Sanjay Tomar. The group went to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road and rented two rooms. Police Head Constable Pramod arranged food and liquor for the group. Mohit, Yadav, and Tomar allegedly took turns raping the woman. When Pramod attempted to assault her, she pushed him out, locked the door, and used her phone to search for the police helpline number.
Police Action and Reactions
The victim called the police around 6 am on Wednesday. Teams from the Hasanpur and Rajabpur police stations arrived, rescued the woman, and detained all four men. An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abduction and gangrape, and the accused are in judicial custody. The local sub-inspector has been suspended, departmental proceedings have started, and a report has been sent to senior CRPF authorities to recommend strict action against the two paramilitary personnel. The farmhouse reportedly belongs to an independent MLA from Uttarakhand, and the property manager has been questioned. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav posted on social media that the incident is a stain on the police force and demanded historic action.
