Representative image · PexelsBlood cancer often starts quietly with everyday signs that are easy to confuse with normal illnesses. Dr Nitin Agarwal, head of the department of Donor Request Management at DKMS Foundation India, shared that early symptoms can include tiredness that does not improve with rest, frequent infections, fevers without a clear cause, unexplained bruising, and swollen lymph nodes that stay large. Dr Agarwal explained that these signs are often blamed on stress or busy routines, but people should seek medical help if body changes persist, return often, or happen together. Blood cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma affect the blood, bone marrow, or lymphatic system. Unexplained bruising, frequent nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or heavy periods can point to a low platelet count caused by abnormal cells crowding out healthy blood cell production in the bone marrow. Persistent tiredness can signal anaemia, which happens when the body lacks enough healthy red blood cells. In lymphoma cases, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss are known as B symptoms. Dr Agarwal noted that these signs do not automatically mean a person has cancer, as they can happen with many common conditions, but knowing them helps people seek timely medical evaluations.
