Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlined a sweeping vision for the company's AI agent, Muse, at the Meta Connect keynote on Wednesday, September 23. Zuckerberg described Muse as the foundation of personal superintelligence and stated that the technology is now within reach for billions of users. Unlike competitors focused primarily on automation, Zuckerberg argued that the highest purpose of superintelligence is creation and invention. Every Muse agent runs on a private, dedicated virtual computer called the Muse Secure VM, powered by the in-house Muse Spark model. Zuckerberg noted that Muse launched a few weeks before Connect 2026 and has already gained millions of users. The keynote highlighted practical use cases, such as tracking down a replacement for a broken china set, rescheduling a trip, and negotiating an $85 discount on a cable bill. Meta is also expanding Muse's capabilities by adding computer use on the Mac app and introducing commerce connectors from Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, and Instacart. To address growing privacy concerns regarding personal data, Zuckerberg announced the upcoming Muse Confidential VM, which will prevent even Meta from seeing user information. Similar private processing is coming to Meta's smart glasses for features like live translation, using technology similar to WhatsApp. At the close of the event, Zuckerberg revealed a new keychain-sized device called Muse Charm. The device packs the full Muse real-time voice and avatar stack into a small body with a fingerprint sensor, bypassing the need to unlock a phone. Meta is finalizing the finishing materials and plans to ship Muse Charm in time for the holidays in December.
