LinkedIn is rolling out new tools to stop fake profiles, false work histories, and online impersonation on its professional networking platform. The company announced these updates on Wednesday. The changes come as people increasingly use artificial intelligence to create realistic fake identities and change profiles online, according to a LinkedIn blog post published on 23 September. To fight this issue, LinkedIn is adding new features to help users prove their real work experience and give companies more control over profiles that claim a connection to them. Members who want to vouch for a colleague must have a verified profile, use two-factor authentication, and have been connected to that person for at least one year. Company page administrators now have more power over profiles that falsely claim employment at their workplace. Admins can block these fake profiles from showing up on their company page and search results. LinkedIn is also testing a feature that requires members to verify they work at a company before linking their profile to it, which can be done using a company email address. If a company removes this association, the member's profile is not changed, but the company page becomes unclickable and the work experience is left unverified. Additionally, LinkedIn is expanding its verification partnerships by adding a new integration with Truecaller. Truecaller Chief Product Officer Kunal Dua stated that this partnership gives people more context when they get calls from unknown numbers. Users can choose to opt in or out of LinkedIn connections, display their professional details on Truecaller, and disconnect their LinkedIn profile whenever they want.
