Representative image · PexelsIndian runner Gulveer Singh heads into the men's 10,000m event at Aichi-Nagoya without the fear that he experienced during the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou. India previously went 25 years without winning a medal in this category at the Asian Games, dating back to Gulab Chand's bronze medal in Bangkok, before Kartik Kumar and another runner ended the drought together. Gulveer now feels he belongs at the same level as the other competitors and is no longer an underdog. In 2025 alone, he broke national records in the 3,000m, 5,000m, 10,000m, 25km, and half-marathon events. He also secured a silver medal in the 10,000m and a bronze medal in the 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in July, competing against tough runners including the Kenyan pair of Mathew Kipsang and Cornelius Kemboi. Gulveer trains in Colorado Springs under coach Scott Simmons, whom he credits for his success while admitting that moving away has limited the time he can spend with his family. At Aichi-Nagoya, he faces a demanding schedule of competing in three events—the 1,500m, 5,000m, and 10,000m—over the span of five days. He also acknowledged the support of his sponsor, ASICS, for providing comfortable footwear that aids his grueling training hours. Heading into the races, his focus remains entirely on giving his absolute best and winning medals rather than worrying about specific timings or outside pressure.
