Fugitive Indian gangster Himanshu Bhau has been arrested by law enforcement agencies in Las Vegas following a tip-off from Indian central agencies. Another fugitive, Neeraj Faridpuria, was also picked up after evading arrest by removing his ankle bracelet tracker.
Background
A source in the National Investigation Agency stated that an Interpol red notice had been issued against Himanshu, while multiple teams from the Delhi and Haryana police tracked his location using technical surveillance. Himanshu, a 23-year-old native of Ritoli village in Rohtak, faces over 30 criminal cases, including at least 16 for murder and attempt to murder. He began his criminal career with extortion in Rohtak and escaped from a juvenile correctional facility in Hisar in 2020.
Operations
After fleeing India on a forged passport obtained in Bareilly under the name Kunal Singh, Himanshu traveled to the United Arab Emirates and took the dunki route to Europe. He ran his criminal syndicate across Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab from Portugal with help from associates including Yogesh Kadian, Sahil, and Neeraj Faridpuria. The gang used social media to recruit youths for extortion shootings, while Faridpuria operated in connection with Punjab's Bambiha gang, a rival of the Lawrence Bishnoi group.
Context
International police cooperation through Interpol red notices and information sharing between Indian security forces and foreign agencies plays a major role in tracking down fugitives hiding overseas. Law enforcement bodies frequently work to extradite or deport such individuals to face trial for serious organized crime offenses back home.
