UPDATE - follow-up to At least four dead in blast in Bihar's Siwan district: Seven people died and two others suffered serious injuries in a massive explosion at a house making firecrackers in Bihar's Siwan district.

Casualties and Police Action

The dead include the house owner, 62-year-old Mohd. Amaruddin Mian, along with his son Arshad Mian, his three granddaughters Muskan, Khushbu Kumari, and Ishrat, and two labourers. Two other people sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving hospital treatment. Following the incident, Siwan Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni suspended Jamo police station officer-in-charge Dheeraj Kumar and village chowkidar Chandrika Manjhi for duty negligence. Authorities formed a special investigation team to probe the blast, cordoned off the area, and deployed rescue teams led by town Sub-Divisional Officer Ashutosh Kumar Gupta.

Context

Illegal or unregulated firecracker manufacturing units frequently operate in residential areas ahead of major festivals like Deepavali to meet high seasonal demand, often bypassing crucial safety protocols. Such incidents highlight the severe risks involved when explosive materials are handled without proper licensing or safety measures in populated neighborhoods.
