New Details

Maruti Suzuki's upcoming electric people mover, internally codenamed YMC, has been spied testing again with new details emerging about its front, side, and interior design. The latest photographs show a short bonnet, a broad nose, and a large windscreen. The front fascia features illuminated lighting elements with multiple stacked segments near the outer edges, though heavy camouflage still hides the complete headlamp arrangement and grille treatment.

Design Features

Side profile shots reveal a long roofline, conventional door handles, and large rear doors alongside a tall glasshouse and an upright rear section. At the back, rectangular lighting sections sit within a horizontal arrangement across the tailgate. The vehicle also includes a shark-fin antenna, a rear wiper, a high-mounted stop lamp, bumper-mounted reflectors, and circular parking sensors, while its long rear overhang points to a third-row seating setup.

Interior And Platform

The interior spy shots give a first glimpse of the dashboard, which houses both the infotainment touchscreen and the instrument cluster in a layout similar to the eVitara. YMC is expected to share its underlying architecture and potentially its battery and motor options with the eVitara, using the Heartect-e or 27PL platform. Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch this new electric family vehicle in 2027.

Context

Test mules are heavily disguised prototype vehicles that automakers drive on public roads to evaluate performance and durability under real-world conditions before a final commercial launch. Sharing vehicle platforms and electric components helps car manufacturers reduce development costs and speed up the rollout of new models in growing segments like electric vehicles.
