Selectors for the national cricket board have brought back Salman Ali Agha and Ali Usman for an upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. This decision follows their departure from England in August when both players were sent back early during the tour. The team management released a fourteen-member group on Friday, which also includes three players receiving their very first Test call-ups: Mohammad Taha, Mohammad Suleman, and Sameer Minhas.

Squad Changes

Babar Azam keeps his role as the captain of the Test side. However, two other players who were also removed from the UK trip, Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, have not been selected for this series. Rizwan faces an ongoing probe by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, an authority that took his phone in London on the evening the Lord's match finished. Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha recently lost his T20 international captaincy to Sahibzada Farhan and missed out on the T20 squad entirely, though he stays in the ODI team led by Shaheen Shah Afridi.

New Players

Among the fresh faces, twenty-six-year-old left-handed batsman Mohammad Taha earned his spot by leading the run charts in the President's Trophy Grade-I first-class tournament. He scored seven hundred thirty runs across seven matches, featuring three centuries and a high score of two hundred twenty-five. Mohammad Suleman sits fifth on that same batting list with six hundred fifty-two runs and three hundreds, while Sameer Minhas joins after scoring four hundred five runs in his first-class debut season following his time with the Under-19 team.

Match Schedule

Rawalpindi takes on the hosting duties for the opening Test from November ninth to thirteenth. The second match shifts to Lahore at Gaddafi Stadium, running from November seventeenth to twenty-first. Other players who joined the team late during the Edgbaston Test, such as Abdullah Fazal, Arafat Minhas, Razaullah, and Saad Baig, hold onto their places. Selectors plan to add two pace bowlers to the roster after the PCB Patron's XI finish their three-day game against the visiting team.

Context

Test cricket squads often undergo significant changes after difficult overseas tours as selectors search for better form and consistency. Domestic red-ball tournaments like the President's Trophy serve as the main pathway for young players to prove their readiness for international competition.
