Actor Mamitha Baiju faced severe health challenges during a song shoot in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, while working alongside actor Suriya. The 25-year-old actor revealed that she suffered from a 102 degree Fahrenheit fever, asthma, and allergies amid very cold weather conditions. The cast and crew had to visit the hospital for a nebuliser after completing shoot schedules. Suriya also experienced a 102-degree fever during the same shoot. Dr Manas Mengar, a senior consultant in pulmonology at KIMS Hospitals Thane, explained that multiple triggers often act together during outdoor shoots. Dust, pollen, smoke, strong fragrances, makeup, artificial fog, generator fumes, temperature shifts, and poor air quality can irritate airways. Long outdoor hours, heavy dancing, and repeated takes further stress the respiratory system. For individuals with asthma or allergies, this mix can trigger coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest, and breathlessness. Intense physical activity involving rapid breathing can also cause exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. Breathing fast through the mouth cools and dries the airways, making them narrow more easily. This risk increases in cold, dry, dusty, or polluted environments. Allergic inflammation makes airways even more sensitive to triggers like pollen, dust mites, and mould. Patients with diagnosed asthma must follow their treatment plans and keep reliever medicines ready. Productions should ensure protective measures and proper ventilation when shoots involve dust, smoke, fog, or pollution. Taking breaks and warming up before strenuous activity also helps. Warning signs that need urgent medical care include rapidly worsening breathlessness, trouble speaking, severe wheezing, bluish lips, and confusion.
