Choosing the right tea depends on your personal lifestyle, caffeine tolerance, and daily wellness goals rather than finding one universally best option. Senior associate dietitian Dr Shreya Sinha from Regency Health in Kanpur recently shared the key differences between green, black, and herbal teas.

Green and Black Teas

Green tea offers a lighter, refreshing drink with some caffeine and natural antioxidant compounds called catechins, which include EGCG. While it fits well into a balanced diet during work breaks, experts caution that it is not a direct weight-loss solution or a substitute for healthy eating and exercise. Black tea generally provides a higher caffeine content than green tea, depending on the brewing style, making it a suitable choice for morning or afternoon alertness. It also contains polyphenols, and while it works well with milk, drinkers should watch out for excess added sugar.

Herbal Teas

Herbal tea comes from herbs, flowers, spices, and other plants rather than traditional tea leaves, and it is usually free of caffeine. Popular varieties include chamomile, peppermint, ginger, and hibiscus. Because natural options do not always suit everyone, pregnant women and individuals taking medications should consult a doctor before adding specific herbal products to their regular routine.
