Prime Video is launching a Japanese remake of the hit Korean mystery drama Quiz from God, starring actor Shotaro Mamiya as the lead character. Mamiya takes on the role of Haruto Hatsushima, a former neurosurgeon who now works as a forensic pathologist at the National Forensic Autopsy Centre in Tokyo. His job involves examining bodies that arrive under unusual circumstances and solving medical puzzles that standard tests cannot detect. The narrative blends complex autopsy work with the personal stories of the deceased, while also following Haruto's private struggle with a secret illness and his unknown reasons for leaving the operating room.

Cases and Production

Set across Tokyo, the plot covers several challenging investigations, including the death of a convicted kidnapper, an online-controversy-linked underground idol who collapses during a live show, a runaway youth, a cinema date fatality, and a young person tangled in illegal gig work. Director Shunki Hashizume leads the project, working alongside producers Takashi Yoneda, Hiroko Okamitsu, and Akihiko Takaishi. Kansai Television produces the series with The Icon, featuring scripts penned by Takayuki Ichikawa, Sayaka Shito, Sayaka Abe, and Shunki Hashizume, and musical scoring by Shu Kanematsu. Mamiya recalled that his manager first suggested he take on this role about ten years ago when he was in his early twenties, which inspired him to watch the original Korean series starring Ryu Deok Hwan as Han Jin Woo. That original South Korean show ran for five seasons across Studio Dragon production. Prime Video will release the new Japanese adaptation globally on December 4.
