National Highway 1 provides a remarkably smooth drive from the high-altitude desert city of Leh toward the barren, moon-like topography of Lamayuru in Ladakh.

The Journey

Starting at an altitude of 11,500 feet, or 3,500 metres, the route passes Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport and the Indian Army's Hall of Fame memorial. About 30 kilometres into the trip, travellers reach the Sangam, where the Zanskar River meets the Indus River. The journey continues along winding mountain roads and past colorful rock formations before arriving at Lamayuru and its historic monastery, which dates back about 1,000 years.

Vehicle Performance

Driving the hybrid Lamborghini Urus SE through this terrain demonstrates its power, delivering 800hp and 950Nm of torque to all four wheels. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 3.4 seconds and features adjustable driving modes, including Sport and Corsa, which optimize its performance across open plains and tight mountain switchbacks.

Context

High-altitude mountain passes in Ladakh present extreme driving conditions with steep climbs, changing weather, and rugged terrain. Automakers often test high-performance vehicles in these challenging regions to showcase their engineering capabilities under demanding real-world conditions.
