Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay needs to bring a resolution in the State Legislative Assembly to cancel the Special Intensive Revision of electoral lists. Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member G. Ramakrishnan made this demand on Sunday in Vellore town after attending a free medical camp for construction workers.
Allegations and Demands
The central administration headed by the BJP has removed roughly 13.5 crore citizens from voter databases across the nation through this exercise. Opposition groups excluding the BJP have joined forces to demand the dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the matter. The Tamil Nadu administration should follow Kerala's path, where both the ruling party and opposition blocks recently passed a unanimous resolution demanding an end to the voter list revision and the restoration of removed names.
Context
Voter list revisions are routine administrative processes handled by election authorities, but major changes or intensive exercises often spark intense political debates over transparency and fairness. State assemblies passing formal resolutions against central policies serve as a way for regional governments to register official political opposition.
