Film Review
Gautam Ghattamaneni, son of Telugu star Mahesh Babu, has given the Nani-starrer action drama The Paradise a one-star rating on the review platform Letterboxd, calling it very disappointing. Gautam wrote that he only liked the cinematography and the acting in emotional scenes, describing the rest of the film as poor and the editing as atrocious. The film tells the story of a tribe called the Savaari fighting for citizenship during the 1980s. Sonali Kulkarni plays their leader Sammakka, and Nani plays her son Jadal. Mohan Babu plays a feudal overlord named Shikanja Malik, and Raghav Juyal plays his son Vikram Malik. The plot follows Sammakka and Jadal as they clash with the overlords and a system that refuses to give them legal recognition despite their contributions. The Paradise was directed by Srikanth Odela and produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri and Ishan Saksena under the banners of Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas and IVY Entertainment. It also featured Kayadu Lohar in a pivotal role. The Telugu film grossed Rs 173.92 crore worldwide against a reported budget of Rs 200 crore and is now streaming on Netflix.
Social Media Attention
Gautam's Letterboxd profile recently became public and drew wide attention from fans after he previously rated Yash's film Toxic a half star. Following the viral reaction to his reviews a few months ago, Gautam temporarily removed the profile link from his Instagram bio. He has since restored the link and added a cheeky bio message on Letterboxd welcoming users to the page and joking that he will try to live up to the national news attention. He has also previously given five stars to his father Mahesh Babu's films Pokiri and 1: Nenokkadine, while giving lower ratings to some of his other films like Nijam, Vamsi, and Brahmotsavam.
Context
Film reviews written by family members of well-known actors often draw high public interest on social media platforms. Letterboxd has increasingly become a popular public space where film enthusiasts and public figures log and rate movies openly.
